Layne began her legal career as an assistant prosecutor with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, where she served for over eight years in multiple divisions, including District Court, Juvenile Division, and the highly selective Special Victims Section.

In these roles, she handled complex and sensitive cases involving violent crime, juvenile matters, and vulnerable victims—experience that continues to inform her thoughtful, strategic approach to the law.

She later became a partner at Fried Saperstein Sakwa PC, where she practiced for more than a decade before founding her own firm, practicing throughout the state of Michigan and across the United States.

In 2024–2025, she also served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Mason County, working within the Juvenile Division, further reinforcing her statewide prosecutorial experience.

Beyond private practice, she is deeply engaged in the

legal community, serving as a

Director of the Oakland County Bar Association,

a Hearing Panelist for the State of Michigan Attorney Discipline Board, and an instructor for continuing legal education seminars.

Her leadership and integrity have been widely recognized, including honors such as

Crain’s Detroit Business Notable Women in Law, Elite 40 Under 40, and the Spirit of Detroit Award.

Layne earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Communications from the University of Michigan.

She is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan and in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

At the Law Offices of Layne Ashley Sakwa PLLC, clients benefit from experience that spans prosecution, defense, education, and leadership—grounded in professionalism, preparation, and an unwavering respect for the legal process.
